Non-governmental development organization that since 1987 carried out international cooperation activities in Latin America and Africa. The objective of the actions promoted by VSF is to help maintain and strengthen the people's food sovereignty as a tool to address issues of rural world and human development in rural areas in poor countries. In Spain it has a professional team with headquarters based in Barcelona and has the support of volunteers distributed in sixteen delegations. In the South, its work is organized through Regional Coordinations

Location: Uganda - Soroti

VSF has been continuously present in Uganda since 1994, particularly in the Teso region. With its work VSF aims to:

Contribute to the endogenous agricultural development of rural communities through increased access to resources and promoting local production models.

Strengthening rural community organizations, VSF counterparts and other local stakeholders.

Raising awareness on the structural causes that undermine the right to food in rural communities and promote changes to local and regional level based on the achievement of the development model of food sovereignty

Based in Soroti (Uganda), the candidate will be responsible for coordinating the actions of VSF in Uganda, focused on the Teso region, and the Regional Coordination team, consisting of 10 persons.

Functions:

To coordinate and contribute to the construction of regional strategic vision analyzing continuously the political, social, economic and cultural context of the country in the respect of VSF policy as well as development objectives priorities defined by the Institutional Strategy and Operational Annual Plan (OAP)

To develop, propose and ensure the implementation of the Regional Strategic Planning respecting the VSF cooperation policy and strategic guidelines of the organization.

To implement and ensure the compliance of the Regional Co-financing strategy

To participate, propose and approve the identification and assessment of stakeholders, partnership and counterparts according to the Strategic Lines of VSF.

To coordinate and ensure the monitoring and evaluation of VSF activities in the country.

To develop and implement the Operational Planning of the Regional Coordination

To ensure the respect of internal protocols, including the security plan and to coordinate the team security.

To coordinate the development and to supervise the implementation of the Annual Budget of the Regional Coordination

To coordinate, develop and manage Regional Coordination Human Resources

To create opportunities for internal communication and processes socialization with the Regional Coordination Team.

To represent VSF towards government agencies, official agencies, international institutions, organizations, networks and actors in the area

To represent VSF towards communication media

To ensure the respect of legal VSF obligations in the countries covered by the Regional Coordination (legalization, labor obligations, fiscal, security ...).

To coordinate the reporting of work done in the Regional Coordination for internal / external communication

Requirements:

University graduation related to the position

Educational background in cooperation, projects and programs coordination

Training and involvement in political processes that defend food sovereignty

Knowledge of peasants organizations and movements in African continent

Knowledge about gender approach and its practical implementation

2 years working experience in similar positions (coordination positions)

Working experience in rural development program management

Working experience in personnel management, administrative and financial supervision of cooperation programs and NGOs management

Working experience in projects and programs management and reporting to donors

Working experience in development projects management in sub-Saharan Africa, preferably in socio-political instability contexts.

Mandatory: spoken and written fluency in English. Spanish fluency will be an added advantage.

Good command of office tools (Excel, Word) and emailing.

Personal motivation in development cooperation and support to marginalized populations

Communication capacity and easiness to exchange knowledge

Good human relationship and respect for different cultural contexts.

Motivation to learn from rural communities

Team work capacity and in urban areas with limited access to services and resources

Availability for periodical travels within the area.

Working conditions

12 months working contract, renewable over performance.

40 working hours per week

Salary according to Veterinarios Sin Fronteras salary scale

Complements according to Spanish law and VSF labor policy.

Starting date: November 2010
