uties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of BINUB (SSR-SA chief ) and the supervision of the Deputy Country Director/ Programmes, the incumbent will :
Support to the Office of the Special Representative of the African Union:
* Ensure regular communication between the African Union (as co-chair of the Polical Directorate) and the relevant national and international stakeholders, and provide secretarial support and prepare meetings, including invitations, agenda, PowerPoint presentation, minutes, supporting documentation, and translate as needed.
Advisory services/technical support in the area of conflict prevention and peace building:
* Prepare report and research, participatory assessments and analysis of security and political situation and trends in Burundi to determine appropriate programmatic support of AU mission in Burundi to avert or ameliorate conflict and facilitate social and economic recovery of ex-combatants through appropriate peacebuilding initiatives;
* Provide advisory services (policy advisory/programme development/technical support) to the African Union in Burundi in areas such as reconciliation & dialogue, armed violence prevention & small arms reduction & community security & social cohesion;
* Provide advisory services to AU on mainstreaming conflict prevention in UN processes and programmes including the design and roll out of peace and conflict analyses.
* Identify the needs and roles of local non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations and formulate strategies and projects for AU Mission in Burundi to strengthen community and local NGO involvement, as well as the roles of women, in conflict prevention and peace building initiatives at regional and national levels.
Integrated regional programme delivery, knowledge management and networking:
* Lead the design and implementation of conflict prevention and recovery capacity development and training initiatives for strengthening the capacities of regional organizations, government and civil society in conflict analysis, conflict-sensitive development, program design and policy development;
* Support the Special Representative (SP) of the AU to develop strategies for engaging with the private sector in conflict prevention and peace building;
* Assist the SP in helping build strategic alliances and partnerships for peace and development related strategies and initiatives with international partners and regional NGOs;
* Work with the AU mission in Burundi in mobilizing resources for conflict prevention and peace building initiatives
* Concrete contributions to the knowledge and strengthening of conflict prevention and peace building in the Great Lake Region;
* Participation and contribution to knowledge management networks on key developments in conflict prevention and peacebuilding including contributing to BCPR/UNDP and the Peacebuilding Commission corporate policies in conflict prevention and peace-building as necessary.
Impact of key results:
The key results will have an impact on the overall success of the country programme and reaching UNDAF/ CPD goals. Specifically it will impact on the success of the UNDP/BINUB Integrated Governance and Peace building initiatives and programme.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
* A Master's Degree from an accredited educational institution in a relevant field (e.g. International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, development, political sciences, development economics, etc)
Experience:
* 5 years of progressive experience in international development including experience in conflict and post-conflict countries focusing on Conflict prevention (CPR) issues;
* Thorough knowledge and demonstrated extensive experience in conflict prevention policy development, programming and advocacy;
* Demonstrated substantive experience in one of these CPR areas: armed violence prevention and small arms reduction; reconciliation and dialogue or community security and social cohesion.
* Demonstrated experience in designing and managing multi-stakeholder participatory conflict analysis processes;
* Demonstrated experience in mainstreaming gender and human rights in CPR programmes and projects;
* Programme design and management experience;
* Resource mobilization or grant management experience;
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to operate and deliver in a complex and multicultural environment;
* Good knowledge and understanding of the UN, its values, priority goals and systems and procedures will be a definitive asset;
* Work experience in small island developing states including the Pacific will be a definitive asset;
Language skills :
* Fluency in French and English (both written and spoken) are required.
