Description:
The Bantwana Initiative of World Education, Inc. is seeking a Deputy Chief of Party for an anticipated multi-year, donor-funded OVC project subject to award. The program is designed to improve services for vulnerable children by assisting community based organizations to provide comprehensive and integrated household-centered care for OVC in Uganda. Bantwana seeks candidates with strong experience and demonstrated commitment to improving services to OVC and their families, and to building effective partnerships with grassroots, district, and national level stakeholders to increase and improve services to Uganda s most vulnerable children. The Deputy Chief of Party will provide essential support to the Chief of Party in managing and supervising the entire program implementation activities of project staff and project partners and will play a key role in managing technical, administrative and financial inputs to achieve the project objectives.

The Project will focus on areas including:

1) Improve the socio-economic status of OVC households with a comprehensive and family focused package for their survival, growth, development and participation in the community;

2) Promote and provide child protection and legal services to OVC and their households; and

3) Strengthen delivery of integrated, quality social services to the OVC and their households through community based response systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Play a key role in supervising the planning and implementation of all project activities, ensuring that all activities are properly and timely performed and that outputs are accomplished and delivered according to the agreed work plans;

Oversee project implementation in specified zones in Uganda and coordinate with other program partners and stakeholders;

With the Chief of Party, provide overall technical oversight for all work and activities necessary to achieve the project planned objectives, outputs, and deliverables;

In collaboration with the Chief of Party, monitor and evaluate project activities, interventions, impact and implemented sustainability measures;

Liaise and advocate with other partners and relevant stakeholders regarding the project activities and policies and contribute toward fitting these policies and interventions, trouble shooting problem solving;

Provide technical supervision and assign technical responsibilities as needed for the project staff and relevant project partners;

Help in documenting all project activities, tasks, achievements and success stories;

Report to the Chief of Party on all technical, administrative and financial activities and relevant issues;

Help in ensuring the compliance and commitment to donor regulations through implementing the required activities by project staff and partners;

Help in maintaining commitment, high morale, motivation and job satisfaction among program staff and partners;

Perform other relevant duties as requested by the Chief of Party.
QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree and relevant technical expertise in areas such as public health, international education or related field;

At least 10 years experience working in relevant fields;

Experience in project management processes particularly relevant development projects;

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the OVC programming, civil society strengthening, and grants management highly advantageous;

Experience in Uganda;

Strong leadership, strategic planning, excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including ability to work effectively in a team and to work effectively with diverse groups;

Must be fluent in English;

Excellent, diplomatic communication and interpersonal skills;

Facility in computer and internet use; and

Good presentation skills.

Salary commensurate with experience.
