Job Title: Gender Officer

Since 1963 and in 145 countries, ACDI/VOCA has empowered people in developing and transitional nations to succeed in the global economy. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development and food security in order to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil society. ACDI/VOCA has been awarded the USAID-funded PL 480 Title II Development Food Aid Program called “Resiliency through Wealth, Agriculture, and Nutrition in Karamoja (RWANU)”, to be implemented from August, 2012 through July, 2017 in Karamoja, Uganda. RWANU will focus on two strategic objectives to reduce food insecurity among vulnerable rural populations in selected sub-counties of Amudat, Moroto, Napak and Nakapiripirit: (1) improved availability and access to food; and (2) reduced malnutrition in pregnant and lactating mothers and children under five. The Program will promote diversified livelihoods strategies including linkages to market opportunities to ensure long-term food security and resilience to shocks. We are currently seeking senior-level professionals in the following fields:

Gender Officer:

    Will be responsible for gender mainstreaming and proactive technical support to the program.
    S/he will work with all components of the program and partners to ensure that gender equity principles are incorporated into all activities and gender targets are met.
    S/he will plan, implement and follow up on gender-related activities and provide support to staff, partners on mainstreaming gender in their programs and activities, including design and implementation of trainings on gender-related topics.
    S/he will strengthen the capacity of program personnel to conduct their own routine monitoring and evaluation of programmatic interventions in a gender sensitive manner.

Requirement:

    Social sciences or other relevant degree and
    at least 5 years experience working in development projects relevant to the position.
    Previous working experience in Karamoja and Ngakarimajong language skills highly desirable. Based in Nakapiripirit.
