Location: Anywhere, availability to be in Uganda in November.
Duration: Part time, 4 months, starting October 2010

PURPOSE OF THE CONSULTANCY
The consultant will work with Women’s Link’s staffto studythe legal status of sexual and reproductive health and rightsin Uganda. The research will include 3 weeks of interviews in Uganda with relevant stakeholders.The consultant must be able to evaluate the results of the research related to maternal mortality in Uganda within a human rights framework.
Time Frame: October 1 – February 1 2010
Location: Kampala, with traveling expected to other areas of the country at least during November 2010.
The Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks and activities:
• Researching the applicability of English Common Law in Uganda
• Understanding Uganda’s judicial system
• Organizing, coordinating and recording meetings with specialists and judges during the month of November 2010 in Uganda
• Drafting a full report including the conclusions reached at the meetings with local partners
• Drafting a full report with the findings resulting from the research on Ugandan law and its judicial system
Additional Qualifications:
Requirements:
The consultant must have:
• A law degree and at least 2 years of experience related to human rights working in Subsaharan African countries or in Uganda specifically
• Posess understanding and commitment of sexual and reproductive rights as human rights
• Excellent writing skills
• English as a first language
