Makerere University is set to partner with the University of Sydney in the provision of scholarships for postgraduate degree programmes in areas of Public Health, Medicine as well as other disciplines in the Australian University.
This initiative forms part of the Australian Government’s undertaking to provide aid to Africa.
In this regard, a team from the University of Sydney met with the Vice-Chancellor Professor Venansius Baryamureeba at his office on Thursday 8th July, where they discussed possible scholarships in areas of Public Health and Medicine. Other areas expected to benefit from the scholarships are; Law, Conflict Studies, Mining, Agriculture, Public Sector Governance and Information Technology.
The Dean, Makerere University School of Public Health Dr. William Bazeyo hailed the University of Sydney for expanding on the number of scholarships. He also hoped that students from Makerere quickly embrace these opportunities so as to completely fill all the scholarship vacancies.
Professor Baryamureeba assured the delegation of his commitment to expedite all legal matters relating to production of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two Institutions. He also pledged to share the factors impeding the quick selection of candidates for scholarships with other Institutional heads at the Inter-University top management meeting. He hoped that this would alleviate all the hindering factors so as to accelerate the selection process and make maximum use of the higher education opportunities.
