ROYAL BELGIAN EMBASSY Sholarships
This offers scholarships to mixed PhD programmes with duration of maximum 48 months, of which 16 months in Belgium and 32 months in Uganda. Candidates must have the approval of a relevant Belgian University and establish a well defined programme under a supervisor (in Uganda and in Belgium) before applying for a scholarship.
They also have scholarships for masters and fellowship programmes offered in Belgium.
For the fellowship programme short term training courses (maximum six months) on specific topics.
The Belgian Government also finances PhD’s and masters. These studies can take place in Uganda or South Africa. Studies in South Africa will be financed in case the course sought is not available in Uganda. They also offer short training courses aimed at building up local capacity for the benefit of Uganda. These trainings can take place in Uganda or in the East –African sub-region
NOTE: The scholarship programme does not cater for bachelors’ degrees and diploma courses.

BRITISH CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS
This is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The awards can cover all or part of the cost. These are usually for twelve months postgraduate study or research at British University or professional institution.
Invitations for applications of these scholarships are normally through adverts in the daily newspapers in December.
KULIKA CHARITABLE TRUST-LEEDS UNIVERSITY- F.C.O. CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS
Three postgraduate scholarships are available for candidates from Uganda wishing to undertake a one year taught Master’s programme of study. The award covers maintenance and other allowances, payment of tuition fees, travel to and from the UK.
Invitations for the applications are normally through adverts in the daily newspapers in December.
COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP PLAN (CSFP)
Funded by the Department for International Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. One is eligible if he/she is a citizen of either a Commonwealth country or a British dependent territory. Scholarships are for postgraduate study. Adverts for scholarships usually run in the daily newspapers in August –October.
DFID SHARED SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (DFID)
It’s funded by the department for International Development and participating universities in the UK.
To get the scholarship you must not be employed by your government or by an international organisation.
This award is for a postgraduate course.

OVERSEAS RESEARCH STUDENTS AWARDS SCHEME (ORSAS)
Funded by the Department for Education and Employment. These grants are for postgraduate students undertaking full-time study for a higher degree as registered research students at British universities
THE RHODES SCHOLARSHIP
The Rhodes Trust provides one scholarship for Uganda every other year. This provides postgraduate degree course at Oxford University
Applications for this scholarship are usually through adverts in the daily newspapers in August –October. More information contact the British Council.
HORIZONT 3000
This is an Austrian organisation for Development Co-operation that offers an Austrian Scholarship scheme Programme. This scheme targets mainly masters students and diploma students. The scholarship is tenable in Uganda. The intake is usually yearly and adverts are run in daily papers of New Vision and The Monitor there after interviews are done to select the targeted group.
