Counselling

The college offers a counselling service and will assist and advise students on matters regarding their current or future studies and on their career development.

Welfare support and counselling is available for students who want additional help in settling in, or need guidance in personal matters.

At the point of enquiry and application, prospective students are helped by our staff to make programme choices appropriate to their aspirations and abilities/potential, with particular regard to the learning outcomes of the programme. Pre-programme material is normally provided by way of guidance and pre-reading.

We have organised induction sessions providing an introduction to the courses, library, and student support services.

CUU will provide a programme of skills development sessions for students in IT, Numeracy and Communication skills, as well as general Study Skills if required. We will also provide study skills experts who will provide support to students with problems in these areas.

CUU provides IT suites with open access, formal classes and technician support. All students will have an email account, and access to Internet and Intranet services. Students will be directed to a range of web-based support sites. They are also able to remotely access the Library and Learning Resources catalogue and electronic databases.

CUU will provide academic and pastoral counselling. Staff will operate standard surgery times and be available by email as well as by telephone. Students are also encouraged to form self-groups. These mechanisms are supplemented by the more formal student representative mechanisms through which student issues can be raised and supported.
