Job Title: Project Manager

Overall Job Objective

Reporting to the Director Product Development the job position of Project Manager shall have overall objective of ensuring effective coordination of product value chain activities for sustainable agro-processing initiatives of the Institute.


Key Job Features

This position shall be based in Kabale district and involves the harnessing of inputs, production units and personnel through innovative approaches that ensure agro-production of competitive value added products common to the region.


Essential duties and responsibilities

1. The position holder shall be responsible for the following
2. Take team leadership responsibilities in meeting production targets for a range of value added products under development for markets.
3. Develop and submit for approval, market product promotions and marketing plans for clients.
4. Coordinate project awareness activities and sensitization of farmers and other stakeholders along the value chain.
5. Plan, assign duties, direct and evaluate the monthly operations of the model agro-processing center personnel.
6. Prepare and submit for approval quarterly and annual budgetary and procurement plans.
7. Submit accountability and other reports for management action and approval.
8. Ensure compliance of all production and manufacturing performance measures and their adherence to production plans schedules.
9. Coordinate the development and update of stakeholders collaboration within the project location.
10. Undertake special product research and development activities and assignments from time to time.
11. Participate in collaborative initiatives, studies conducted by other government agencies, private sector and any professional entities.
12. Perform any other related duties as assigned from time to time.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The required person shall have very good knowledge of: essential principles of planning, business management, resources utilization and coordination. General best practices for industrial production and manufacturing including standards requirements for quality and safety; Information and other data sources including fundamental information management systems; Supervisory techniques including personnel management, planning and scheduling. The candidate must also possess an excellent understanding of Quality assurance including regulatory and international standards and certification requirements for agro-food processing establishments.


Required abilities include working with minimal supervision; maintaining excellent interpersonal relationships with colleagues and clients; time consciousness, critical attention to detail; pro-activeness and corrective action attributes. Skills shall be required in oral and written communication; presentation; report writing and data management.


Experience and Training

The right candidate must be a graduate in an appropriate professional field of study. Additional qualification or training in food processing or any related area shall be an added advantage. A minimum of Three (3) years progressive practical experience is required.
