Nkumba University Admission Entry Requirements

General Admission Requirements

Presently, here are three avenues of entry to the University. These are: The Direct Entry Scheme, the Diploma Holders entry scheme and the Mature Age Entry Scheme.
The Direct Entry Scheme(From Advanced Level) Expand/Collapse

Degree Courses
A Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with a number of 5 passes and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least 2 principal passes obtained at the same sitting and 2 diary passes or its equivalent.

Diploma Courses
A Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with a « um of 5 passes and a Uganda Advanced Level certificate (UACE) of at least one Principal Pass ("C" and above), plus 2 subsidiaries obtained at the same or its equivalent.

Certificate Courses
A Uganda Certificate of Education with a minimum of 5 passes and a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education of at least one principal pass or 2 subsidiary passes obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent.


Special School Requirements
Within the framework of the general direct entry requirement, there are special school requirements which a candidate must fulfil to gain admission to a programme in the respective school:


School of Education, Humanities and Sciences
Applicants who wish to study education must have passed:-

1. English and Mathematics at Ordinary Level
2. At least two teaching subjects at principal level for Degree and Diploma Courses!


School of Industrial Art and Design
Two principal passes one of which must be in Art for Degree courses and 1 principal pass in Art and 2 subsidiaries for Diploma courses.

School of Hospitality and Environment Science
One should have passed Science at Ordinary level.
Diploma Holders Entry Scheme Expand/Collapse

To qualify for admission under this scheme, candidates must be holders of at least Second Class or Credit Diplomas from recognized institutions of higher learning or its equivalent relevant to their desired fields of study.
The Mature Age Entry Scheme Expand/Collapse

Under the Mature Age Entry Scheme,

Candidates who are at least 25 years old and who have completed formal education (Ordinary level) at least five years previous year of the admission, may apply to sit the Mature examinations for diploma courses.

Candidates who are at least 25 years old and who completed advanced level education at least five years previous year of the admission, may apply to sit the Mature examinations for degree courses.

Those who are successful in both written and oral examination shall be considered for admission.
