The U.S. Embassy is seeking for one individual for the position of Media Program Assistant in the Public Diplomacy Section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The incumbent serves as an advisor to the PAO and Information Assistant, assisting the Information Assistant in planning, developing, scheduling and administering a country-wide media program to promote wider exposure to and understanding of U.S. foreign policy among key audiences in Uganda. The Media Program Assistant has responsibility for monitoring of media content and maintaining relations with media houses. The incumbent also supports the public diplomacy program activities and initiatives of the other PD units, and other Mission sections. The incumbent serves as back up to the Information Assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1. Education required: University Degree in Social Sciences, Journalism, or Broadcasting is required
2. Work Experience: Three years of progressive work experience in journalism, broadcasting or public relations related work with a private or public organization is required.
3. Language Requirement: Level IV (fluent) English speaking and writing ability is required.
4. Knowledge: Working knowledge and /or familiarity with the local media community and civil society is required.
5. Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in the use of personal computers (Microsoft programs) is required. Ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness in obtaining information, drafting concise reports in English, develop and maintain contacts with various media and civil societies or institutions is required

SELECTION PROCESS

When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and visa status in determining successful candidacy.

2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.

4. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their appointment.

5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
