Competencies
Professionalism - Excellent knowledge and demonstrated effectiveness in developing logistics plans, policies, procedures and new programmes; demonstrated fiscal awareness and responsibility and good knowledge of UN and AU financial regulations and rules; ability to provide technical and procedural advice in a broad range of logistics areas; substantive experience and extensive knowledge of logistics polices, structure and strategy, including application of UN rules/regulations with emphasis on DFS logistics procedures and policies required; ability to advise on support services budget formulation, preparation of logistics reports, training schedules, and to conduct seminars/presentations to the AUC and its partners; commitment to implementing the goal of gender equality by ensuring the equal participation and full involvement of women and men in all aspects of peace operations. Communication - Excellent communication (spoken, written, and presentational) skills, including ability to present sensitive issues/positions and to write reports and justify logistics decisions. Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed. Teamwork - Excellent interpersonal skills and in order to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. High degree of personal initiative and willingness to accept wide responsibilities; ability to support and act in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not reflect own position. Planning and Organizing - Demonstrated planning and organizational skills and ability to coordinate the work of others, work to tight deadlines and handle multiple concurrent projects/activities. Managerial ability to perform at the senior supervisory level often in difficult/demanding situations. Identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities where necessary; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Advanced University Degree (Masters Degree or equivalent) in business administration, logistics, transportation, engineering, or other relevant field. A first level university degree with a combination of relevant academic qualifications and experience in relevant fields may be accepted in lieu of the advanced University degree.

Work Experience
At least 7 years of progressively responsible United Nations experience at professional level both in the field missions and at UN Headquarters. Expertise in UN logistics, with extensive knowledge in policy, strategic planning, coordination of multifunctional logistics and project management is required. Experience in military logistics operations will be an asset.

Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is an advantage.
