Post: Mobile Team Lab Technicians
6 Months Contract
Educational Requirements:
• Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology from a recognized educational institution
• Should have received additional training in laboratory service provision in relation to HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge in the use and storage of reagents
• Knowledge in the general practices of laboratories
• Knowledge of safety precautions in a highly infectious laboratory
• Minimum of 2 years work experience in a clinical setting
• Training in good clinical practices
• Basic understanding of training and education with some experience in adult education
• Well developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate in an effective manner with a wide range of stakeholders
• Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes
• Proficient computer skills including the use of Word software application and simple spread sheets
• Experience working in rural areas
• Willing to travel at least 50% time
Key Responsibilities:
• Reviews all requests written for laboratory tests by medical personnel e.g. malaria blood smears, HIV rapid test screening, Hemoglobin estimation, TB tests.
• Reading Quality control and quality assurance slides and other tests
• Assesses the compliance of health units with all lab quality control/ quality assurance policies and procedures
• Checks the collection of all lab results from labs used and ensures a medical doctor reviews all results before filing
• Monitors the standards of practice in the study site labs
• Assesses the level of maintenance of laboratory equipment and reagents
• Participates in training health care workers on laboratory issues both onsite and at IDI.
• Provide mentorship to health workers at the study sites
• Code research data following procedures/guidelines provided
• Check through files to ensure that data extracted and/or submitted for research purposes is accurate
• Identify gaps and training needs at facilities
Compensation:
Compensation for these positions will be commensurate with training and experience.
