Job Title : Assistant Accountant

The Church of the Province of Uganda (Church of Uganda) is a member of the 'Worldwide Anglican Communion. The Church is currently seeking-suitable persons to fill in the positions listed below:


Reports to: Provincial Accountant
Responsible for: Accounts Assistant
Location: Provincial Secretariat,Namirembe Hill, Willis Road

Role:
To ensure that the COU Financial management and accounting functions of the Grants and Partner Funded programs are maintained in compliance with the Partnership Cooperation Agreements (PCA) and all internal controls and financial reporting are maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain efficient and timely financial records and financial reporting on all program activities in accordance with the Program Cooperation Agreements (PCAs)
• Process program payments in a timely manner and in accordance with the PCA.
• Provide analysis and coordinate the dissemination of financial reports to Cooperation Partners in a timely manner and in compliance with the PCA. • Implement a secure and reliable cash management and cash transfer systems to sub-grantees as and when required.
• Prepare regular bank and cash reconciliations
• Ensure that all documents relating to financial transactions are safe-guarded and properly filed in order to facilitate their easy retrieval.
• Coordinate and consolidate Annual Budgets for COU grant-funded projects and using this information, develop a : 5 year financial forecast.
• Ensure that resources are properly utilized in conformity with budgetary controls and value for money principles
• Prepare management accounts on regular basis and draw trial balance on a monthly basis Supervise subordinate staff and check their work to ensure that it is accurate in the areas of Ledger Posting, cash books and petty cash.
• Prepare and reconcile Asset registers on a Quarterly basis
• Supervise and monitor receipts of procurement and deliveries of purchases
• Prepare books of accounts and financial statement in readiness for audits
• Assist in the development of training materials for sub-grantees
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of Department and management

Job requirement

Qualifications and Experience:
• A University degree in Commerce or Business Administration
• Membership of Professional Accounting bodies such as ACCA, CIMA and CPA.
• A minimum of 3 years uninterrupted working experience in a busy working environment
• Knowledge of grants accounting with a reputable NGO or faith-Based organization is an added advantage).
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting software is essential.

The candidate should be assertive, ethical and independent in decision making. Other skills and knowledge requirements: -
Self-motivated, able to prioritize work and follow up tasks and issues to the end
• Good inter-personal, oral and written communication skills
• High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality Strong numeric, analytical, accounting and audit skills
• Sound knowledge of computerized accounting
Advanced computer literacy (e.g. MS-Word Application such as: Excel, Power Point Email Software) Mature Christian and a person of integrity
