Job title: Laboratory Manager
The Laboratory Manager will be reporting to the Deputy Executive Director
Overall Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Manager provides overall direction and guidance towards the development and operations of all JCRC labs. He/she also ensures that all JCRC labs acquire and maintain necessary accreditation. In addition, the job holder will ensure that all research based lab processes are conducted in accordance with prescribed Research Protocols.
Main Duties
• Ensures that all JCRC labs acquire and maintain relevant accreditation as evidence of measuring up to internationally accepted and recognized lab processes, procedures and best practice
• Ensures that all research based laboratory processes in JCRC are carried out in accordance with Good Clinical Laboratory Standards (GCLP) and Research Protocols
• Provides guidance into the development of JCRC lab infra structure and introduction of new lab services to meet existing and future needs
• Contributes to the development of Research Protocols
• Ensures that all JCRC laboratory infrastructures are effectively utilized and maintained to a standard complying with the JCRC Code of Practice and in compliance with health and safety regulations
• Leads the development and implementation of JCRC safety policy to ensure safety and minimization of accidents in all JCRC labs
• Develops and guides implementation of JCRC Labs Sharing Policy that guides the sharing of lab infrastructure with external research collaborators
• Contributes to the development of Laboratory training curricula and participates in the conduct of any such training for both JCRC staff and other health service providers,
• Plans and evaluates the performance of lab staff through appropriate performance standards and provides mechanisms for performance improvement
• Develops and manages plans and budgets for lab services,
Qualifications and Experience
• An advanced a degree in medical laboratory sciences plus training in management. A Doctorate degree (PhD) in a related field will be an added advantage.
• At least 5 years experience in managing a busy and multi-disciplinary lab preferably involved in clinical or bio-medical research.
Other Attributes
• Knowledge of the current trends and practices in medical laboratory sciences in clinical and biological research
• Good Clinical Laboratory Practices
