Since its establishment in 2001, the Female Scholarship Initiative (FSI) has supported 691 female students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access university education at Makerere University and of these, 600 have graduated. The remaining 91 beneficiaries are expected to graduate in 2011. FSI beneficiaries completion rate to date stands at 88%.
Makerere University hosted a breakfast on 23rd July 2009 to celebrate the success of the Female Scholarship Initiative, a project that supports female students from disadvantaged backgrounds to access undergraduate education.
The FSI, which targeted girls from disadvantaged backgrounds has transformed the lives of the beneficiaries who would otherwise have missed university. Of the beneficiaries, 600 who have so far graduated in various professions are well placed in various sectors including government departments, international and multinational agencies, non-governmental organizations and the private sector.
