Student Mobility Support Program
Description
The Student Mobility Program is designed to support short term initiatives involving exchanges, study tours, internships, scholarships, etc., in Canada, and is intended for organizations willing to offer international students the opportunity to advance their understanding of Canada in those areas of interest to Canada or in areas of shared policy challenges between Canada and the international student's country. We are particularly interested in innovative projects that will provide students hands-on learning experiences and training and promote greater student awareness of Canada. Projects including elements of reciprocity (i.e. receiving young Canadians in the host country) are welcome.
Areas of interest to Canada include:
* Peace and Security
* North America Partnership (including key Canada-US bilateral issues)
* Economic Development and Competitiveness
* Democracy, Rule of law, Human Rights
* Managing Diversity
* Environment / Energy
Applications will be considered in accordance with the procedures, guidelines and conditions described below.
Eligibility
This grant is intended for foreign higher learning institutions and organizations that wish to undertake initiatives involving exchanges, study tours, internships, etc., in Canada and abroad.
IMPORTANT:
- Projects relating to multilateral and international organisation simulations are not eligible for funding.
- Projects must be submitted by the organisations or higher learning institutions. Proposals submitted by students will not be considered.
Terms and conditions
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT), through the local Canadian mission, will provide successful candidates with funds to help meet expenses in accordance with the following conditions:
a) Applicants may request funding up to $10,000;
b) Grants are provided to help defray only traveling related expenses. These costs include airfare (economy class using the most direct routing), local transportation, and accommodation.
c) No provision is made for released time stipends, salaries, or for overhead costs to the institution or organization;
d) IMPORTANT: Proposals must be submitted in ENGLISH or FRENCH and budget figures must be in Canadian dollars. FAILURE TO RESPECT THESE OBLIGATIONS MAY LEAD TO AUTOMATIC REJECTION OF THE APPLICATION.
e) Particular attention will be given to the budget. The show of needs should be clearly and precisely demonstrated.
Application requirements
Applicants must complete the application form and submit it to the local Canadian mission. Attachments can be added to the application form but all information requested in the form should be submitted even if it is included in the attachments. Applications can be sent electronically or faxed.
Applications need to be submitted to the local Canadian mission by February 1st , for events happening after April 1st. Late applications will not be considered.
Evaluation of Application
Upon receipt of the application:
a) The local Canadian mission will send a notice of receipt to the applicant.
b) The local Canadian mission will send a copy of the application to the appropriate program manager at the International Education and Youth Division (PRE) of DFAIT in Ottawa. Assessment of the applications will then be conducted by the program manager in consultation with the local Canadian mission and other divisions in DFAIT. All applicants will be notified in writing of the results of their applications, normally within 90 days of the deadline for submission of applications.
