Oil Palm Coordinator Job in Uganda at Ministry of agriculture

Job Title:OIL PALM COORDINATOR (OPC)(1 Position)

Reports to: Project Manager
Role definition: Develop strategies for planning and implementing of the Oil Palm Development Component of VODP2.

Key Result Areas

Develop and implement strategies for Coordinating and managing activities of the Oil Palm Development Component in line with the project objectives and guideline
Develop and review Project Operations Manual and guidelines for oil palm development in line with the Project objectives
Develop strategies for project implementation, management and timely production of the section reports in line with Project Operations and Financial Management Manual.
Develop strategies for technical backstopping to oil palm growers organizations in Kalangala and Buvuma in line with the Project objectives and approaches
Carry out training needs assessment for staff and farmers and organize the preparation of the training materials and training programmes in line with the training guidelines
Develop strategies for reporting information for project M&E on oil palm development component in line with Project M & E guidelines.
Develop strategies for collating and package information from other institutions and agencies involved in oil palm development for use by farmers, staff and stakeholders, in line with the Project objectives
Develop and implement Partnerships with relevant project area stakeholders for the purpose of developing the oil palm component in line with the Project objectives
Develop and implement strategies for compiling project plans and reports in line with reporting guidelines


Job specifications

A Master's degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Economics or related field.
A post-graduate qualification in oil palm related area of study would be an added advantage.
A minimum of eight years of experience in working with multi-stake holder community-based agriculture development projects.
Good knowledge of participatory approaches to working with farmer groups/associations and community-based activity planning, budgeting and accounting.
Demonstrated experience working with the private sector.
Some knowledge and experience in developing marketing strategies with farmers for agricultural commodities the linkages needed, along with experience in bringing together small scale farmers with big commercial entities will be an advantage.
A professional of high standing with strong leadership and team building skills.
Have general knowledge of project and business management with emphasis on work planning, budgeting and reporting;
Be computer literate and well versed in the use of Word, Excel and internet;
Fluent English - written and oral and demonstrate excellent report writing skills;
Advanced advocacy, communication and negotiation skills and ability to work as a team member;
Be conversant with rural poverty reduction strategies and gender equity;
A working knowledge of GOU policies, operations and reforms;
Excellent skills in working with groups to build consensus and resolving conflict.
Excellent organization skills with the ability for multi- tasking;
Excellent presentation skills; oral and written with attention to detail
